About Me

My photo
Palatine, Illinois
Deedles Photography began after a few visits to the local studio with Addison. Addison is a very special child with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy due to the severe brain damage she suffered as a result of her extreme prematurity. Deanna and her family found it very difficult to get priceless memories in a studio setting due to Addison’s physical limitations and increased risk of contracting an illness. That’s when Deanna became interested in photography – she desperately wanted to capture those memories for her family! Deedles Photography specializes in many captured memory areas, including but not limited to, maternity, child portraiture, special events and engagement sessions. Deanna is working towards her accreditation through the Special Kids Photography of America association and she hopes to capture your special child’s memories!

November - Epilepsy Awareness Month

Epilepsy Awareness Month
What is Epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a variety of mental and physical functions. It’s also called a seizure disorder. When a person has two or more unprovoked seizures, they are considered to have epilepsy.

A seizure happens when a brief, strong surge of electrical activity affects part or all of the brain. One in 10 adults will have a seizure sometime during their life.

Seizures can last from a few seconds to a few minutes. They can have many symptoms, from convulsions and loss of consciousness to some that are not always recognized as seizures by the person experiencing them or by health care professionals: blank staring, lip smacking, or jerking movements of arms and legs.

Types of Seizures
There are many different types of seizures. The kind of seizure a person has depends on which part and how much of the brain is affected by the electrical disturbance that produces seizures.

This November, for National Epilepsy Awareness Month, the Epilepsy Foundation is asking everyone to Get Seizure Smart about seizure first aid, recognition and types. Epilepsy affects people of all ages and races, and represents one percent of the population in this country—nearly 3 million people.

About the Epilepsy Foundation
The Epilepsy Foundation, a national nonprofit with affiliated organizations throughout the United States, has led the fight against epilepsy since 1968. The Epilepsy Foundation will ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences and will prevent, control and cure epilepsy through services, education, advocacy and research. For additional information, please call 1-800-332-1000 or visit www.epilepsyfoundation.org .

Featured in this post is James.  James suffered from a stroke in utero and as a result of the braindamage  from the stroke, he developed a form of Epilepsy called Infantile Spasms.  James is a sweet, gentle baby and absolutely loves monkeys!  James' parents are advocates for Epilepsy awareness, especially Infantile Spasms.  James is so lucky to have the love and support of his parents, family and therapists.

Infantile Spasms is a catastrophic form of Epilepsy with poor prognosis.  It is characterized as jackknife/headdrop seizures with a constant chaotic background brainwave activity & developmental delays.  It's one of the Severe Childhood Epilepsy Syndrome.  Parents of children with this condition often wish it was called a more hard hitting name.

November - Prematurity Awareness Month

Prematurity Awareness Month

543,000 babies (1 in 8) are born prematurely each year.

Premature birth is the number 1 killer of newborns.

Premature babies cost ten times more than healthy babies.
Every year, more than half a million babies are born prematurely in the United States.
Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death worldwide. Even babies born just a few weeks too soon can face serious health challenges and are at risk of lifelong disabilities. Premature birth costs society more than 26 billion a year.
The March of Dimes works different channels of influence to reduce premature birth rates. One way is to raise public awareness of the serious issue and to invest in education of moms-to-be and health care providers. To create awareness, March of Dimes has designated November as Prematurity Awareness Month.

Featured in this post is my sweet daughter, Addison.  Addison and her twin brother Riley were born at 24 weeks and 6 days, weighing much less than two pounds each. Addison was strong for such a tiny, critically ill baby; however, Riley was simply too small and far too sick to survive – he passed away after four short hours.  Addison just turned three years old and is a bright, bubbly little girl with a passion for life and learning.

Featured above is the Harris family.  This past weekend I had the pleasure of capturing memories for their family.  The session was absolutely amazing and there were so many great images to choose from.  I've visited with the family a couple times since the shoot and they were very pleased with their final images!
